Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men. (Luke 2:14)

Widely sung in the Christmas carols and found in greeting cards, the latin phrase “soli deo gloria” means "glory to GOD alone". It reminds us of the angels and the multitude of heavenly hosts who praised God for the birth of the Saviour Jesus Christ even the Saviour of the world. Yes, the birth of Jesus itself glorified God. Not only His birth glorified God but also His life on earth, His death on the cross and His resurrection too. Hallelujah!

The word of God says,

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of GOD. (1 Corinthians 13:1)

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Mathew 5:16)

As the children of God and the followers of Jesus Christ, we are also called to do all things for the Glory of God. From the life of Jesus we see that Jesus was careful to do everything for the glory of God and His life reveals us two things that helped Him glorify GOD

1. Divine Anointment

Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit as we see it in the scripture below

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. (Isaiah 61:1)

Jesus himself needed the anointing of the Holy Spirit to fulfill His mission and to glorify God and so do we.

2. Divine Appointment

Jesus was clear about what to do and when to do. He knew His divine appointment. He was ready to face the day, the people, the storm because He spent time in praying to the Father. He prayed early in the morning, evening, even all through the night and so He spoke nothing except what He heard from the Father. It is impossible to know the path without prayer and it would be impossible to glorify God without walking in the right path.

Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

The anointing of the Holy Spirit and the continual prayers were also seen in the lives of the disciples who lived and even died as the witness of Jesus Christ  and glorified GOD in the midst of threats, imprisonment, loss and martyrdom. Even the young American missionary John Allen Chau (aged 27) who died as a martyr glorified God in his death just as he rightly mentioned in his last letter to his parents and family “SOLI DEO GLORIA”.
